When picking a plasma TV, many people think that bigger is
better. This is not correct. If you choose a plasma TV screen that is too
big you will be disappointed with the picture quality. Although you may
think that 60 inch plasma from 6 ft will look great, it will be too large
and pixelated.
Generally plasma TV manufacturers, and many resellers, recommend too large of screens. An
important point to remember is that 50, 55, 60, 61, and 65 inch plasma TV
screens all have the same amount of pixels. The general
rules of plasma screen size are as follows.
Distance to screen from seating position.
6 to 12 ft,
42 inch plasma TV
12 to 16 Ft, 50 inch plasma
16 to 20 Ft, 55 Inch Plasma TV
20 Ft Plus 61 inch plus
screen
Although these are rules of thumb, The absolute best way to
determine the correct size of Plasma TV that you need ,is to simply
cut out a piece of cardboard and tape it to the wall. Sit in your chair and
see for yourself. You will be surprised how big a 42 inch screen actually
is.
The Plasma screen sizes are as follows. The sizes
below include bezel which averages about 1.5 inches all the way around
and vary slightly by manufacturer. These sizes do not include side mount
speakers which generally add 4 inches per side.

How high should I mount the plasma TV screen ?? What is the correct height for a plasma screen??
When mounting a plasma TV screen , two things must be
considered, what is cosmetically pleasing and what is a comfortable
viewing height.
If a plasma screen is too high you will have to look up to
view it and it will not be comfortable. The farther from the screen you are
sitting, the less of a factor this will be. If you mount the unit too low,
it will not be cosmetically pleasing. General rule around 5 ft
to 5 ft 6 inches to the middle of the the plasma screen. Again use the
cardboard cut out to determine the height of the screen
